Rooted: Linux Privilege Escalation

News, of significant flaws in the latest Linux Kernel, of which, lead to an ordinary user privilege escalation of rather enormous implications, the holy grail of operating system attacks: Root.  The vulnerability, identified in the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s National Vulnerability Database as CVE-2012-0056, specifically is a kernel flaw which permits unfettered access to the “/proc//mem” file. Torvalds patch was committed to the official Linux kernel repository 2012/01/17, but not in time to beat the distribution of the appearance on-line of exploit code. Oops.
