Nissan confirmed its computer systems were hacked two weeks ago.
The Japanese automaker said that hackers broke into its network and stole employees’ usernames and encrypted passwords. The company said it first noticed an abnormality on its network Friday, April 13, when it discovered a piece of malicious malware had targeted employees’ log-in credentials and was transmitting them back to an outside computer server. Nissan did not say which employees had been targeted, what division they worked in or what the intruders may have been after. The company tracked the intrusions back to an Internet protocol address, but said it did not give much indication of who was behind the attack.
